This work aimed to identify the areas of silviculture in the Mid Paraíba do Sul (RHIII) River basin, Rio de Janeiro state, based on geoprocessing techniques. Commercial plantations, usually with Eucalyptus spp, and reforestation areas were included as silviculture. For identification of these areas, we used the bands of the visible of WorldView 2 images with resolution of 2 m, RapidEye images with resolution of 5 m and Landsat images with resolution of 30 m. The purpose of the mapping was to meet a scale of 1: 25,000. Through visual interpretation and incorporation of vector data, we classified all silvicultural polygons with a minimum area of 1 hectare (ha), using the e-Cognition software. The total area of silviculture was 12,430 ha and represents 2% of the total area of the river basin. The municipality of Resende accounts for 38.74% of silvicultural area, followed by Paty do Alferes (10,17%) and Rio das Flores (9,59%). Because only the visible bands of the WorldView 2 images were available, the use of vector data was essential to identify the areas of silviculture, especially small reforestation patches that are easily confused with forest areas. Methodologies that include temporal data analysis are also important because the plantation dynamics.
